Brian Brobst Legacy Internship Program

The Brian Brobst Legacy Internship Program introduces students to careers in the mission-critical infrastructure industry through hands-on experience in the world’s largest data center market.

Created through a partnership between the AFCOM Potomac Chapter and the 7×24 Exchange DC Chapter, the program honors the legacy of Brian Brobst — a founding member of 7×24 DC and a longtime mentor who spent more than 15 years helping grow and strengthen the mission-critical community.

The program reflects Brian’s belief in showing up for people, sharing knowledge, and helping the next generation find their place in the industry.

A Pathway Into the Mission-Critical Industry

Building on AFCOM Potomac’s award-winning internship initiative, the program expands opportunities for students to explore careers in data centers, cloud infrastructure, and the technologies powering the digital economy.

Two program tracks allow students to pursue the path that best fits their interests and career goals:

Scholarships

Engineering Path
Designed for rising college seniors studying mechanical or electrical engineering, this track focuses on the design challenges and complex systems that keep mission-critical facilities running.

Operations Path
Designed for students studying the skilled trades or project management, this track prepares participants for immediate career opportunities in the operations and construction side of the industry.

Real-World Industry Experience

The 11-week summer program (May 26 – Aug. 7) provides a rotational experience across the mission-critical ecosystem.

Participants will:

• Complete two placements with host companies across the industry
• Tour data centers across Northern Virginia, the world’s largest data center hub
• Receive mentorship from experienced industry professionals
• Gain exposure to technologies supporting AI, cloud computing, and digital infrastructure

Each intern will be paired with an industry steward who serves as a mentor throughout the program, helping guide their experience and providing professional insight into the industry.

Designed for Industry Participation

The program is structured to make participation easy for sponsoring companies.

AFCOM Potomac manages recruitment, payroll, and insurance coverage, allowing host companies to focus on mentorship and providing meaningful experiences for students.

The program launches each summer with the Brian Brobst Internship Kickoff Party, bringing together interns, mentors, and industry leaders to celebrate the beginning of the internship cohort.
